Reporting (Project Sync): Functionality RRS feed

  • Hi Ganu

I think this queue job shows up when the latest changes that have been applied to the project are being pushed out to the Reporting DB.

The project site sync job (I can't remember the exact name from memory) you're talking about is synchronizing permissions from the project plan to the project's SharePoint site. It ensures that resources added to the project team or assigned to a task automatically have permissions to access the project site.

    Hope this helps!

  • Primary is the Project Resources.

Permissions of your Project Sites are based on:

    Project Managers:

    • Users who have published this project or who have Save Project permission in Microsoft Project Server
    • This group has full control on site where they can create lists, document libraries, add/edit/delete documents etc. but they cannot manage site permissions. This group can create document libraries/lists inside project sites.

    Team Members:

    • Users who have assignments in this project in Microsoft Project Server
    • This group can also add/edit/documents like project managers but cannot create or delete a document library/list inside the site

    • Users who have been added to this project in Microsoft Project Server, but not assigned to tasks
    • This group has read rights on the overall site

Above permissions are automatically created and users are added/removed from these groups as you keep on adding/removing them in Project Plan. Whenever you make changes to your resource plan in Project it gets reflected automatically to Project Sites permissions.

Hope this helps you a little.

  • As Shalldor23 pointed out this job is actually updating the reporting database with the latest project information. If you are specifically interested in what information gets tracked in the reporting database then check out the schema from the SDK download http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms512767.aspx Information tracked in the project site is predominantly the out of the box Issues, Risks and Deliverables information. Tables and views are prefixed with MSP_Wss

  • How, if at all, does this job work with changing project owners? My understanding at the moment is that who ever is the owner of the project in Project Server will get the 'project manager' type of rights to the project site. So, if you change the project owner in Project Server, does that new owner now get sync'd to the project site? Or do you also need to publish? How does that work?
