Question

Hi,
We are not able to push updates in Windows 7 and windows 2008 R2 clients from SMS 2003. Even if it shows success in some clients, physically no updates are available.

Hi,
The hotfix is already installed. Catalog file is getting updated in Win7 and 2K8 and also Vista clients and I chould see the request for updates in SMS from these clients. In SMS it shows even the patch update program distribution as successful but as I told above it is not practically getting installed on these clients. These updates are getting downloaded in these clients at the location c:\windows\system32\ccm\cache\...pkgid same as shown in CSS\. No error is available in any log files. If No One has any solution, shall I close this Post as I am not getting any help since long

In addition to the above, check the patchinstall.log(c:\windows\system32\ccm\logs) for more information about the patches installation process ?

Hi Eswar,
I have checked the Logs it shows successful, But when I check in the 2008 server or windows 7 client I found none of the security patch is Installed. What I chould find is all the patches are getting downloaded and available in the \windows\system32\ccm\cache\.. and then a folder with the packageid. But these are not getting installed. The diffrence I monitor with XP or 2003 clients is : In these PCs a file named PatchMonitor.xml is created in \windows\system32\VPcache\ folder whereas this file is not getting created in 2008 or Win 7 clients. Can anyone help me in finding out the solution.

Did you installed compatiability pack to manager win7 and server 2008? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974014/en-us
ensure, the computers are scanned with Microsoft update tool successfully before running any patches from SMS.
The file or folde vpcache is MU tool package which is required to run/install the Updates patches like syntax
INSTALL FAILED: UpdateID = 804db346-55c5-44b7-8491-1ecf77062836, QNumber = 978601, Title = Security Update for Windows XP (KB978601), ExitCode = 1642, Executable = C:\WINDOWS\system32\VPCache\PackageID\SmsWusHandler.exe /InstallFile:"\\DPServer\SMSPKGx$\PackageID\804db346-55c5-44b7-8491-1ecf77062836\windowsxp-kb978601-x86-enu_49ae6ac4f6e0a609124f2ce6f80fcef249273c02.exe" /UpdateID:804db346-55c5-44b7-8491-1ecf77062836

Yes, I know this is an old post, trying to clean them up before CM12 is released. J
I hope that you have figured this out by now but if not I would recommend call CSS (MS support).
