Active Directory New Name RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have domain with 2 sites and I want to separate the computers and servers in each site by different FQDN.

    For example:

Server in site 1 will be SRV1.abc.local

Server in site 2 will be SRV2.abc.cloud

    How can I do that?

Can i create a new DNS zone in my domain or I have to create a new tree domain?

In addition, if the best solution is to add new tree domain, can i create new DC with a server that belongs to existing site?

  • To give you direction on this I would need more information. What are you trying to accomplish? How many items do you have at each site? (Thinking recreate vs migrate).

  • Hi Brian, thank you for your reply.

Ill try to explain myself better :)

Right now I have 1 domain with 2 sites.

The local site (basically the office) with 30 PCs and 1 server (DC).

The second site is the cloud servers, with 60 different servers (and one more DC).

I want to classified them by changing their names. I want PCs on the office will be pc.example.local and servers in the cloud will be server.example.cloud.

In addition, I want the users to be able to work with the both sites/domains with the same credentials, and to backup the 2 domain/sites together.

It is possible? and what is the better way to do it?

    Thanks a lot!
