1st Startup after successful automatic download of Updates and lockup before startup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Software downloads functioned fine and were completed.

Prior to the restart, system locked up on other application and then attempted reboot.

System gets to the "Windows XP" screen, then to the "safe mode" screen explaining Windows did not start successfully.

No option works: Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Network Connections, Safe Mode with Prompt, Last known Good Config, or Start Windows Normally.

System keeps looping trying to start.

(Added complexity, CD/DVD drive has not worked for some time so cant put in Windows disk.)

I can access the Bios on the set up, but not sure what to do.

Question: How do I get the Operating System to restart successfully?

  • Hi,

    • Either you try to get a borrow/replace the CD/DVD drive and try the repair option via Windows Installation CD
    • Or remove the harddisk, mount it to another working system, and run chkdsk.

    Hope that helps.

  • Yes, thanks.  Those are the two options I am looking at now.  Waiting for a freind to bring over an external CD drive for option 1.  Otherwise, on to option two.

    Thanks for the feedback.
