OneDrive for Business - Hide External Users

    Question

  • We'd really like to replace our Citrix ShareFile with OneDrive for Business.  One issue we have is the ability for external users to see one another as members of a folder no matter what basic access level they have (view, edit). I've tested as an external users myself and can always see other members.

Is there a way to hide folder/file membership from external users?  If we're sharing files to external parties, it is typically either inappropriate or unnecessary for them to be able to see who else has access to files.  We don't need banks or lawyers to be able to see who else is involved in a project.

There are very few cases where it would actually be beneficial for external users to be able to see shared file membership.

  • Hi Mark Graff,

By default, there is no OOB feature to hide the folder/file membership for external users in SharePoint online.

There is a workaround. You could upload some files with same content and different file names. And then one file just is shared with one external user if there is not many external users. Then when he shares the file, he only can see himself.

  • Thanks Sara.  We are currently managing separate shared folders with duplicate content for external users.  But the workaround is pretty prohibitive when we're talking about more than just a couple external users and not to mention the increased probability of disparity of the content in the duplicated files.
