Which version of MDT/ADK for Windows 10 release 1507 (aka 2015) LTSB RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've search the web, but I was not able to find any definitive answer.

We are considering using MDT/ADK toolset for deployment of Windows 10 Enterprise Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) release 1507.

Can we use the latest version of MDT (build 8443) with ADK (version 1703) to automate deployment of Windows 10 LTSB branch release 1507?

On the ADK website (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/windows-assessment-deployment-kit) it says: "You must use Windows 10 version 1607 with this version of the Windows ADK". Which indicates, that 1703 version of ADK won't support Windows 10 LTSB 1507.

If this version of ADK does not support Windows 10 LTSB 1507, then what version of MDT/ADK shall we use?

    Any help would be appreciated:)

;-) To be fair, even Microsoft says LTSB shouldn't be used on most or all machines - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/waas-overview

If you still want to deploy it, you're going to need to maintain another deployment server running an old version of MDT and ADK that support the version of LTSB you want to deploy.

  • Thanks a lot. I would love to stay away from LTSB:) But at the moment we are not ready yet to embrace CBB servicing branch (all the fun with management of periodic feature updates).

  • I'm doing CB, it really keeps you on your toes making new images and having to account for things that have been deprecated or changed. So far nothing has deterred me from it though.

Future plans could be, having 98-99% on CBB, 1% on CB (canaries) and hopefully 0-1% LTSB

Use WSUS to control when you approve new versions rolling out.
