merge PS2007 and PS2010 PWAs RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have two PWA in PS2010 and one in PS2007.

We want to migrate PS2007 to PS 2010 in such a way that we will have one PWA end of the day.

So like merge the existing 2007 PWA into 2010 PWA. How can this be done?

  • Hi there,

High level steps below for Project server data and config:

    • Fully backup both the PS2007 and PS2010 farms in case you need to roll back
    • Back up the PS2007 DBs
    • Restore these to the SQL server that is used for the PS2010 farm, restore as new databases (do not restore over the existing DBs)
    • Create a new PWA site on the PS 2010 farm linking to these DBs restore in the previous step
    • This will give you 2 PWA 2010 instances
    • Now choose the smallest of the 2 instances and take a playbooks backup of the configuration that you want to take across
    • Use playbooks to restore and merge the configuration backup into the other PWA instance
    • Save out the Projects as MPP files and load into the PWA instance that you are keeping
    • Export out the Resource from the instance you took the playbooks export and import into the PWA instance that you are keeping
    • Add the imported resources to the correct security groups
    • Recreate / copy Enterprise Global entities from the PWA from the instance you took the playbooks export into the other PWA instance
    • Fully test the config and check the data

    Hope that helps
