  • Hello,

I am having problems inputting sub-projects into Microsoft Project 2016 from SharePoint. Once I insert the sub-projects it does not allow me to save the file and it says the files are read only although I am sure I inserted them in editing mode. Is there any way this can be addressed? Also can Microsoft project online solve this problem? If yes how?

Bad news, my friend.  You cannot create and save a master project using subprojects that are stored in a SharePoint site.  And yes, Project Online would solve that problem.  Hope this helps.

In Project Online, the project schedules are not stored in a SharePoint site.  They are stored in an Azure database in the Microsoft cloud.  This architecture allows a PM to create and save master projects saved in Project Online.  Hope this helps.
