6.1 to 6.3 PAS upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • My client is currently running PAS 6.1 in production and would like to do an in-place upgrade to 6.3.  I am looking for potential pitfalls.

Does the PAS database schema change at all?  Can the new PAS installation be pointed directly to the existing PAS database without changes or losing data?  How easy is it to roll back if there is a problem?

Any advice, direction or documentation would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi ckcampbell,

The upgrade from 6.1 to 6.3 should be seamless.  One thing you'll want to make sure is that the SQL account PAS uses to connect to its database uses a strong password - this is one of the security changes with 6.3.  The 6.3 installer can use the 6.1 database and all you'll want to do for that is to point the installer to your current 6.1 database.  After uninstalling 6.1 you'll want to delete the 'PAS' folder in the inetpub\wwwroot directory, reboot, and then start the 6.3 install.

I recommend testing the upgrade on a development server before upgrading the production machine.  Rolling back if there's a problem is a matter of restoring the database and installing the previous 6.1 software.

  • Sean is right, please backup your database before the install.  The upgrade should go off without a problem, but if it doesn't, getting back to where you were is only a matter of restoring the database.

  • I am planning an upgrade myself (we are in the process of weening certain groups off of Business Reporter for Excel...). What are the common pitfalls with upgrading the ProClarity Dashboard server from 6.2 to 6.3? I'd prefer to replace it with PPS, but we aren't in a position to do that yet.
