Easy transfer problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently my laptop broke as someone was kind enough to spill a can of cider on it. I have purchased a new Dell laptop with an Integral cradle to put my old hard drive into to transfer my files over to the new machine. I used the windows easy transfer programme and all of the files successfully transferred however i am denied access to them as they are password protected. How can i access these files? I had the previous laptop password protected is that the problem?

  • Hello,

Before going any further, I want to know whether you use the third-party application to enter a password to protect your Easy Transfer file. Please understand that the password protection has been added to the programs so that you can prevent unauthorized access to important information. For this reason, if you are unable to access information because you do not enter the correct password. If you forgot the password, I recommend you seek third party password recovery solution to see if you can recover it. I apologize that Microsoft does not provide any password recovery service because of the security policy restriction.

For additional information about password support policies, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft's Policy Regarding Missing or Invalid Passwords

Otherwise, if you just don’t remember the Windows Easy Transfer key, you might refer to the following webpage to transfer data again.
