Get-WindowsFeature substitute RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to find a substitute for the PowerShell command "Get-WindowsFeature" for Windows Server 2008.

The reason being is that I need to do a report from a script and that would extract informations from VMs.

I tried to add the module manually by copying the module "ServerManager" from 2008 R2 to 2008 and launch an import-module command only to have an error stating that the module NestedModule could not be treated.

Now I have to warn that the PowerShell version is 2.0 and I'm not allowed to perform any updates of any sort as it would require a reboot.

Is there any way that would allow me to make my script work by changing the command "Get-WindowsFeature" with a more suited one for the system and version?

    Thank you

  • WS2008 is no longer support. It is past end-of-life.  None of the R2 modules will work in 2008.

You can use WMI or DISM on 2008 to extract installed features.  Post in the deployment forum to see if anyone has links to the old 2008 documentation.
