Unable to establish connection to Project server from Project Professional RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are not able to establish a connection between Project Professional 2010 and Microsoft Project Server 2010

It is redirecting me at an error page which does not exist.

For example lets assume the PWA site url is

    http://ServerName/PWA

Whenever I try to connect to this site using project professional it tries me to redirect at the following page

    http://ServerName/_layouts/Error.aspx .

The event viewer shows that the following exception is thrown for this page

    Exception information:

        Exception type: FileNotFoundException

Exception message: The site http://server/_layouts/Error.aspx could not be found in the Web application SPWebApplication Name=SharePoint - 80

We have claims based authentication enabled on the server.

When I login to PWA through internet explorer using windows authentication, I was able to login to Project Professional as well.

Otherwise, it is giving this error.

Had anyone came across this issue? Please help me resolve this issue.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Prasad

I am having a hard time trying to understand your issue.

In the first part you describe getting an error when logging in Project Pro or PWA, but later you say that you can login using PWA or Project Pro.

What's the difference between the two scenarios.  Are they are different workstations?  Or servers? Or different accounts? etc

    Cheers!

  • Hi Micheal,

    Thank you for the reply.

Scenario 1: When I try to login to Project Pro, I am getting this error. (In this case, I am not accessing PWA through IE).

Scenario 2: I am accessing PWA through IE and I am able to login. Now if I tried connecting to Project Pro, it works!!!

But this is not the correct behavior and Project Pro should allow login directly

  • Hi Paolo,

Thanks a lot. Your solution has fixed the issue.

But I am still not clear on why a root site collection is required to access Project server through Project Professional?!!

  • Hi Paolo,

    Greetings!

I am having a similar problem and your solution would probably help me as well.. Unfortunately, I am new to the site collection..

Can you please elaborate on the steps - where can I define this on project online cloud environment?

I get following error when connecting a Project Professional 2010 - local desktop thick client to a PWA (Project online) cloud environment.

    <detail><errinfo><general><class name="ActiveCacheUnsupportedProjectProfessionalVersion"><error id="12015" name="ActiveCacheUnsupportedProjectProfessionalVersion" uid="7babc462-4923-e411-890f-00155dc21b2c" version="14.0.4751.1000"/></class></general></errinfo></detail>

    Best Regards...

  • Hi stct,

since a couple of year i'm not follow Project technology anymore. So, maybe, i can't help you.

Anyway, are you sure that it's possible to connect Project Professional 2010 to Project Online?

UnsupportedProjectProfessionalVersion seems related to different versions of the products.

    Let me know,

    Best Regards,

    Paolo
