  • Hello Mr T1,

Is office web apps working if you access the site with https://intranet.acme.com? Also, could you install something like Fiddler on the same machine you browse from and monitor the traffic going when you execute a search. There should be some calls to url's ending with .ashx which are the calls made to the mobile API in OWA to generate the images. And what error are you getting on these calls when accessing the https link?

Also, are you getting any errors in the SharePoint log?

    Regards,

  • Thanks Mikael, Here is what I found so far:

    1. If I do server name mappings http://sp-idx to https://intranet.acme.com then when I perform the search, here is what happened

        a. link to the document in result search page pointed to https://intranet.acme.com

        b. link to "view in browser" point to http://sp-idx

        c. No document thumbnail

    2. If I removed the servername mapping

        a. link to the document in result search page pointed to http://sp-idx

        b. link to "view in browser" point to https://intranet.acme.com

        c. Document thumbnail display OK

I don't know if there is a bug in FAST search, we are only get the document thumbnail if we remove the server name mapping and content source point to crawl server http://sp-idx. However, this is not secure since we want both the link to the document point to https://intranet.acme.com not http://sp-idx.

I am currently looking into log file and use fidler tool and let you know later.

    Thanks

  • Hi T1,

Service Pack 1 just came out for FAST for SharePoint and one of the fixes are: "Document preview does not work in search results when https is used." You could try to install service pack 1 for both SP2010 and FS4SP in a test enviroment and see if this will solve your issues.

I would think it's the SP2010 sp1 which has the fix as doc previews are a part of the SP codebase, not the FS4SP codebase.

  • Thanks Mikael, I am successfully apply sharepoint sp1, office web app sp1 and fast search sp1. However, I still got the same issue.

For FAST search sp1, I only install on my 2 FAST server (fst-adm, fst-idx) is it right?

After I installed FAST sp1, restart servers and run FAST configuration wizard, I got message "System is already configure", do I need to run any powershell command to apply recent update or do I need to recreate content query ssa and connector ssa?

Microsoft did not had any good instruction how to run FAST sp1 upgrade at all on their site.

    Thanks

  • MrT,

You shouldn't need to apply the FAST sp1, as thumbs/previews are only dependent on SP2010 and OWA. So then there must be something else. Any luck with logging the web calls being made?

You could also modify the xslt to use the http address and not the https, as it's the xslt which kicks off the javascript for this. Seems to me the calls to the protocol handler in OWA has issues with server mapping to https.

  • Did you check if the Application pool account of the web application has permissions on the service applications Word Viewing Service Application and the PowerPoint Service Application?

This article might help as well: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2554903
