Disk space being used up but no visible files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows Vista Professional 32 bit SP2. Right around the install of SP2, the disk started decreasing available disk space. There is approximately 230 GB of unusable disk space. Any ideas where to look?

  • OK. I found the problem. Volume Shadow Copy was set to use unlimitted disk space. No clue how. Set it to use 15% of the disk space and it fixed it.

  • Id be checking that you arnt infected by a virus mate, space shouldnt just disapear like that.

    run some hard scanners
    NOD32
    AVGFree
    Spyware Search and destroy
    Windows Defender

Run full (slow) scans of your PC.

Allso if using Limewire if i remember right that used to download lots of Pornographic Material to Peoples HDD's (sounds strange i know) but have a look via the seach C:\ option.

Let us know how this goes.

  • Then you need to really clean ur PC up after setting the Volume Shadow copy. Usually you have to keep HDD disk space higher because if its very low, Windows will take long to load up all drivers, system files, programs, and personal files.
