Fiscal calendar question RRS feed

  • Hello,

I am new to this and hope that someone could point me to the right direction.  I am trying to create a dashboard that will show time (number of hours) that people worked by departments.  I was able to do this.  Now I want to setup filter for the fiscal year that will show only three selections: Fiscal Month, Fiscal Quarter, and Fiscal Year.

The problem that I have is, for some reason, it shows me Fiscal months.  All of them.  Even those that are not there yet.  I can uncheck the months that I do not want to see but it means that I will have to constantly work with that dashboard to add/remove months.

And it displays choices by Month of the Year (Fiscal February, 2011, for example).

Is there any way that I could setup that drop down menu will show just words: Fiscal Month, Fiscal Quarter, and Fiscal Year?  I do not want to see the names of the months and the year.  And it will point, for example, to the fiscal month based on today's date? And Fiscal Month should be default selection.

    Is it possible to do?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

You should configure time into Connection secction and create a filter Time Intelligence type, where you can write expressions as you want.

    Check http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/performancepoint-server/about-syntax-for-time-intelligence-expressions-HA010241138.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA010241137

  • Another aproach that can be implement in cube directly is create a set. you can use navigate functions and currentmember function to get relative positions.

Ask for it if you don't know how to.

  • Thank you for your reply.  I do not know how to do it on the cube but I tried to configure time in Connection and create Time Intelligence filter.

    This what I did.

    On the source, under Time:
Time Dimension is setup to the date that Hours were released for.
Reference member is setup to 05/26/2010.
    Hierarchy level is Month.
    Reference date is 06/26/2010 ( I also tried 05/26/2012)
Member Level is set to the same field as Time Dimension is set and Time Aggregation is set to Month.

After that I created Time Intelligence filter.
I connected it to my source.
I have the following under formula:
    Month - Month
    Month:Month-6 - Last 6 Months
    Month:Month-12 - Year

I connected it to the Dashboard and results are not what I need.
If I select Month, it shows me the data that is not correct.  On the right side of the graph it shows the date that is 06/05/2010.
If I select Last 6 Months, it shows the information for from 05/29/2010 through 06/05/2010. It shows those dates for each department with different colors.  Basicaly, on the left I see number of the hours.  On the bottom it shows department but there are multiple bars per deparment with different colors per day.
If I select Year, it shows me exactly the same as Last 6 Months but the dates are from 05/23/2010 through 06/01/2010.

    What am I doing wrong?

  • Well, on the source, under time

Selected time dimension and setting a day member as reference member, you should configure Day as hirarchy level instead month

Keep reference date equal to reference member, so set 05/26/2010 into this field. Also is needed configure the Time Memer Associations, setting each hirarchy level (year, month, day[, semester, quarter])

  • Thank you for your reply.  I configured Day as hierarchy level instead of month.  Also, set reference date as you suggested.

Under Time Member Associations, I have only one entry, so I can setup only one entry.  If I set it up as day, the dashboard shows me days, not months.  This was the reason why I tried to setup month under hierarchy level and under Time Member Association.

My Time demations field has only dates that the time was released for.  Somehow I need to combine them in months, so I could display months, not days in the dashboard.

Any ideas how can I do it?

    Thank you.

  • Do you have a user defined hierarchy in the Time dimension in the cube?  This is what you would want to reference to get this to work as expected.  Typically you would have say a 'Calendar' hierarchy that would have multiple levels in the hierarchy such as Year-Quarter-Month-Date.

Take a look at some of these references for additional information on configuring this:

Configuring Data Source Time Settings for Time Intelligence

Configuring Analysis Services data source time settings by using Dashboard Designer
