SharePoint 2010 migration to SharePoint Online


  • Hi,

    We are planning to migrate SharePoint 2010 teamsites to SharePoint online. We have lot of customisation in out on-prem like 

    1. custom site definition

    2. list definition

    3. custom web parts

    4. Timer services

    5. Event receivers

    6. Layout pages

    7. Custom actions

    Please let me know can above custom feature available in SharePoint online, it would be great help if anybody provide an checklist and limitation details.

  • Hi K Senthilrajan,

    Custom layout pages and custom actions can work in SharePoint Online.

    Custom web parts, Timer services and Event receivers are not supported in SharePoint Online. In SharePoint Online, we can only use remote event receivers to handle events in the SharePoint Add-in model. And in SharePoint online, the Sandboxed Solutions are not supported. We need to use the Add-in model for customizations.

    After migration, custom site definition and list definition might work in SharePoint Online. Might the DLL works in SharePoint 2010 does not apply to SharePoint Online.

    Before the migration, you could test in SharePoint Online test environment.
