Unable to delete orphaned OneNote page from SharePoint - Sync errors

    Question

  • Our team has a Sharepoint Online teamsite that hosts our shared OneNote Notebook for documentation. Since September, we've all been getting a Sync error that points to a particular page that has since been moved. However, this page keeps coming back no matter how we try to kill it.

Error text in OneNote during Sync: "We can't sync this file because it's checked out on the server. Undo the check out or check the file in. (Error code: 0xE000078F)"

We've already verified it's not checked out. Have even opened our Site Assets (that contains the notebook) in File Explorer and have went and deleted the problem section, and the file keeps showing back up.

Just wondered if anyone else has ran into this. We want to kill this thing and get our sync working again. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Please try to remove the OneNote file from Site Assets and delete the problematical page, then re-sync it with Site Assets library, test whether the issue occurs.

    Thanks,
