Clients reporting, but not detecting updates after KB3159706 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All!

This bloomin' update has caused me pain on 4 of my R2 servers. All were fixed by removal or post installation tasks, except one.

Clients are reporting in the console regularly (and are listed as needing updates), but windows update on all the clients is simply ticked green, reporting no new updates are available. The update logs are fruitless, simply saying "0 updates available in 0 categories".

Have 100 percent done post installation tasks for KB3159706 - also tried editing web.config file even though I'm not using SSL. Have also un/re-installed KB3159706, but to no avail.

Connectivity to the iuident.cab file works, and I'm prompted for download.

Logs on both server and client show nothing of note.

Any thoughts/further tests to narrow down issue would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks,

    Doug.

Here is client update log for perusal:

  • Hi spug1,

    >it appears that the WSUS server has not downloaded the files

You may check the WSUS overview, check if there are files needed to be downloaded.

If WSUS server unable to download files, please check WSUS event log to find event 364, it may record the reason why the download is failed.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Hi spug1,

    1. On clients, we may test the result of checking for update online, check if the clients can detect new updates from Internet. This can help us check if the clients have windows update issues;

    2. We can also reset windows update component on clients and search update from WSUS server again:

    Reset windows update components:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

    3. On WSUS server, check if there are errors in event viewer for WSUS, also check WSUS log file which locates in C:\program files\update services\logfiles.

    4. Also try reindexing WSUS database.

Feel free to feed back the result.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Having looked into the actual status of the update files, it appears that the WSUS server has not downloaded the files, thus the clients are getting them I assume! I have forced a re-download, and will see how that works out! Cheers, Doug.
