I have to agree with Trevor, that is the "smart" way. But you may be able to simplify it a bit without the need for a separate custom field. Take a look at the first screen shot of an example. Depending on the level of indenture, you could use the filter shown in the second screen shot with the accompanying filtered results.

  • In addition to the mentioned responses, you may obtain your requirement by the following:

    - On the Entry Table and the View Gantt Chart, insert the WBS column.

    - Click the arrow on the WBS column, a filter dialogue window will appear.

    - Clear all the boxes and then check in the ones related to your Construction activities.

Thus you will have a table showing tasks related to construction.

  • You need a filter. The filter will have to check for a value in a particular field. Therefore you need to use a spare field, Text1, and fill it up with the WBS heading for each task. Easy. Copy/paste, fill down.

  • ok, isn't this smart enough, since it works and is quick and easy? If there is a smarter way, what is it?

How about a filter which asks you for the first characters or all of the characters in the WBS that you want?

Tasks don't know what the name of their summary is, and it easy to see why they don't because , because there could be any number of levels of summary, sub-summary.

  • More useful is to add Text custom fields. Call one Trade and enter suitable values against all tasks. For example, Earthworks, Drainage, Roading, Landscaping etc. Now you can filter for similar tasks across the whole schedule easily.

You can also create Text fields to hold location, contractor etc. This way you have far better reporting control. You can also Group by these fields for even more useful reports.
