UAG Web Monitor - Session Status - Cmd line RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello there,

We were wondering if there is a way via cmd, perfmon, powershell, etc. - to get the same graphical output that we get on the UAG Web Monitor Session Status graph. In particular, we were looking to monitor the number of Authentication/Total Sessions, for historical trend analysis as well as for monitoring purposes (SCOM 2012), so that we could be alerted if that number suddenly surges too high.

  • No need.   There is already a "max concurrent threshold" setting in the gui you can set which will then generate an event when that number of sessions is reached.  Then per event type, you can configure the event to be sent to radius accounting server, syslog server, or via email..

  • Hi Mark,

We know about that settings - but that is a hard-line setting, isn't it? Another words, we don't want to limit users once a max is reached, but we just want to know about it. Kind of like getting notified when 80% of your disk space is used, so you be careful about getting to the 100% marker.

We ended up just writing a script which we inserted into SCOM that parses the http of the Activity Page and returns that current max session count.

  • Hi Reuvy,

What Mark is referring to, is the following settings:

This will generate event (both in the UAG web monitor and in the OS event when the amount of sessions will reach specific threshold.

    As per

    Session threshold before issuing event

Specify the concurrent session threshold limit. When the number of sessions reaches this limit, Forefront UAG sends a message alert to the Web Monitor when a new session is opened. The message is also sent to the Built-In reporter log file, if this type of logging is enabled. The default limit is 0, which indicates that no threshold is set and no alert is sent.

  • Exactly.  Thanks Ophir.   And then like i mentioned using the UAG "event reporter" and event message definitions xml you could opt to not only have that particular event sent to the "built-in" reporter, but you could also have it sent to a radius accounting server, a syslog server, or via email..
