Sequencing Skype v5.8 > Freeze on quit/sign-out RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

    I'm trying to sequence Skype Business version 5.8 latest on Windows 2008 R2 (SP1) with latest App-V (4.6 SP1).
Skype works, but the problem is that when I sign-out or exit the application it freezes and I have to kill it with task manager. No error, no message, just freeze.
This happens always when you sign-out within Skype or quit Skype by right-clicking on the taskbar icon and selecting quit.

I've tried about everything, I sequenced the app on Windows 2008 R2, 2008 x86, XP SP3 all with the same result. Disabled DEP, tried to click rebase DLL's, nothing.
Also, running it compatibility mode doesn't work. Even when I sequence Skype on a XP SP3 system and launch it within the sequencer then the same thing happens.

When I do a clean installation, outside of App-V on any OS it works like a charm, so it has to be something related to App-V.

I already filed a bug report on skype.com but I doubt they will help me there, however Microsoft owns Skype now so you never know ;)

Any help is greatly appriciated, I really need this to work I don't want to install Skype on the server itself.

    Thanks!

  • Hi this was solved, for who wants to know:

    https://jira.skype.com/browse/SCW-3577

Remove REG_SZ entry “Installed =1“ under
    HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Skype\Phone\UI\ from the VFS.

Now what's left is fix the random crashes with Skype running on Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server.

  • While typing this 5.9 came out so I hoped that fixed it, but same problem. When you sign out it tries to return to the sign-in screen and then freezes up.

  • Did you launch the application during the sequencing phase? If so I would try re-sequencing and not launching. I can remember that being an issue with an earlier version
