Configure user authentication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have installed MOSS but when I try to browse the website, it doesnt take my domain credentials.

I have also tried other account under which the application is running but its not taking the crendentials.

Note: I dont want to make changes to browser settings to make part of trusted site etc. I would like to have use enter the credentials and user the website.

    Any comments.

  • Found the reason:

If you configured sharepoint to use "kerberos Authentication" then Integrated Security doesnt work and you have to change it to Basic Authentication to get on the website.

Changing the configuration back to "NTLM" make Integrated Security to work.

Here is the aritcle that shows how to convert authentication models:

But on the other side Microsoft says its an issue but doesnt relate that issue with Kerberos and still wants to change authentication mode to basic (I just dont agree with it. Not valid reason). Here is the article though:

  • What you could do is develop a forms authentication scheme to run against the LDAP port 389 of your AD to force users to use a form and login everytime.

There are some drawbacks to this, largely the lack of seamless access, once logged in, from other application such as Excel - files usually need to be downloaded and edited and uploaded rather than edited directly from the site, etc.  But you can do it if you really have to.

    Good luck!

  • I m not talking about creating form authentication.

What I saying that when Integrated Security option is enabled in IIS, then the website always asks for user credentials and user should be authenticated after submitting thier domain credentials and everytime I do that, the sharepoint website doesnt process / accept them causing "you are not authhorized to view this webpage" error.
