Windows Vista Start Menu Search does not function correctly RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is slightly harder for me to explain.

But let's say I type in 'cmd' in the search box, it'd bring up the start search menu items, but all the search results contain is 'Programs' with the new document icon (you know the sheet of paper portrait up straight with the bent top right corner-leaf.

If I put in 'test.doc' (saved to Documents) in the search box, it brings up Files and Downloads in the search results with the new document icon again.

I've tried everything, surfed the net, and waited a while, looked again, and then I decided to ask for help on here.

If anyone can help me, I'd be thankful!

I thought a little, and when I use my other PC for the start menu search, if I search for 'test.doc' it brings up the search results, and Files and Documents as categories for the search. I believe that's the logic of the error, if that helps!

It just seems to display the categories as files.

    Can anyone help me?

  • Hi,

That is because in the search results, the searched contents are included. In Windows Vista, the search function could also look for documents, emails, etc and find any matched strings we are looking for.
