Remote desktop services 2016 I cannot change the RD Web url from rds.domain.local to

  • Hi guys

I have a local remote desktop installation for test purpose

Its running on server 2016 single server

My domain name is a .local, I want to install a certificate

On the RD web access, and I know that I cant buy a certificate with .local name

It seems that i cannot change the url in:

Configurere the deployment / RD WEB Access / url

I recall that this was possible in 2012r2, is this option removed in Server 2016 ?

Or I there a powershell command.

    Thanks in Advance

    B. Hansen

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have testet it on my RDS 2016 single server installation

The script run as expected (no errors) but it does not change anything

the FQDN and the RD web access remains the same (the server + domain-name)

  • Hi,

There is no need to change the FQDN shown in Server Manager for RD Web Access since it is irrelevant.  Decide on the FQDN you want for RDWeb, create DNS A record on internal (pointing to private ip of RDWeb server) and external (pointing to public ip) and make sure you have certificate set in RDS deployment that matches.

Server 2016 is no different than Server 2012 R2 in this regard.

On a related note, Set-RDPublishedName script changes the FQDN that clients use to connect to the broker.  You need to have a DNS A record for this FQDN on the internal network pointing to the private ip address of the broker server.
