DPM 2012 cannot restore backups made with DPM 2010 since upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Experts

I have a client who has 6 DPM 2012 servers that were upgraded from DPM 2010 and since doing the upgrade the client can no longer restore any backups that were originally done on the 2010 servers, but works for any backups done using the 2012 servers. Any ideas why this is the case?

  • Hi,

Can you define "can no longer restore" ?

Are they Disk or Tape based backups ?
What is the error associated with the failed restore ?
Was the upgrade a normal in-place upgrade, or was DPM moved to new hardware as part of / or after the upgrade ?

  • if you try and restore from a previous backup you get a red cross telling you the restore job has failed

  • Hi,

The failed restore job will have details why it failed. Please copy / paste the details of the failed restore job.

Does it matter where you try to restore to:  original location, alternate location, copy to network folder ?

  • Hi,

That does not appear to be associated with a failed restore job.  That seems to be an alert after a synchronization job for a file server.  That can effect end user recovery from client machines but not restores done from the DPM console.

Please try doing a new restore from DPM Console , then when the restore job fails, please post the details from the failed job, not the alert, but the failed job itself.
