Video Artifacts when playing games (e.g. as supplied with VISTA) RRS feed

  • Question

I recently upgraded my Sony Vaio to Vista Premium and have found that I get strange artifacts when playing games. These artifacts consist of two types (see so far).

    1. Bits missing from the chess pieces (little black holes)

    2. On all card games such as Solitaire I get random triangles streching across the play area. and part of the image are displaced. These move as I try to interact with the game. Also the test hint that appear in the bottom left corner has characters missing - again these change as I move the mouse over the cards.

This problem makes the game impossible to play.

A similar thing happens with FreeCell, Hearts, Mahjong Titans, Spider Solitaire, Mindsweeper, Purple Place.

The only game that does not have a problem is InkBall.

    My computer build is :-

    Pentium 4 2.8GHz

    1GB RAM

Graphics : Gigabtye GeForce 7600GS (256Mb RAM) (has latest driver)

    Motherboard ACPI x86-based PC

     2 HDD (ATA) > 250Gb.

I have seen the same problem reported elsewhere but no definite solution.

Although one suggestion was to update the motherboard driver but I am not sure where to find this.

    Can anyone help please?
