DPM 2012 R2- Tape IsOffsiteReady property RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have one PG that contains few clients, once a month I backup PG to Tape.

In the last backup I had a problem with one of the clients.

I want to backup this client to Tape now, the problem is that DPM assigns a new Tape  for this backup, because the the old Tape is ready for offsite although  it is not full, how can I resolve this issue?

changing "IsOffsiteReady"  property  will solve this? if yes, how can I do it?

when I tried to change it, I got an error:" 'IsOffsiteReady' is a ReadOnly property"

    Need help with this issue,

    Thanks, Lior

  • Following are some of the reasons which could alleviate this problem

Ensure latest tape drivers are installed

DPM does not support auto-clean feature, hence disable auto clean feature in tape library. Basically, if auto clean happens in middle of writing to tape, it will result in DPM translating to IO Error, hence no further writes on that tape.

Enable colocation on the tape which will ensure data sources from different protection groups but with same recovery goals are put on the same tape (if possible)

There are few registry edits around IO buffers, etc which also help (documented in blog mentioned below)

All of this is nicely documented in this blog post -

  • Hi,

    can I changed "IsOffsiteReady"  property?

yes.  Use the "Optimize Usage" icon on the toolbar to define a co-location protection group set (permitting more than one session on a tape), to permit your old and new sessions to co-exist on the same tape.  After appropriately editing the co-location group, the "IsOffsiteReady" flag will disappear automatically.
