Hello all. I'm looking for data that can tell me how much I can save in bandwidth consumption when I move from a WS2003 environment to a WS2008 R2 environment in WAN scenarios, like satellite. If you don't have WAN scenarios data, LAN scenarios data will do also as my interest is trying to prove how much I can save, in bandwidht consumption, when going to WS2008.
That's a tricky question, not knowing your environment. One of the advantages going to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is that Active Directory is able to replicate using DFS-R protocol insteda of FRS (pre WS 2008). Using DFS-R will minimize WAN usage because DFS-R is able to replicate deltas (only replicate changes to a file) and depending of how much you replicate that could be a huge advantage. Is that helpful? Jens Ole Kragh
