Backup DPM backups to Commvault RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to backup a DPM backup to our Commvault backup solution?

We are having problems backing up our Hyper-V R2 cluster properly with Commvault and am wondering if we can use DPM to help with that.  I know that DPM can back up a Hyper-V cluster.  We would like to be able to use DPM to backup our Hyper-V cluster to Disk and then take that data using our Commvault backup solution and back it up to tape.  Is this possible?  In the testing that I have done, there doesn't seem to be any way to get to the backups that DPM creates without using DPM itself.

  • I have a question about that.

Can the third party software play the role of long term backup?

For exemple and to be clear concerning the needs :

I have a retention range of 20days. We backup DPM and the replica+RP with a third party software.

Now the DPM server crashes(day0) and we cannot get it up for 30days.

At day 0, we restore the server and its database. Can we restore the replica + RP ? Or will it be ignored by DPM because the retention range has been reached?

  • Thanks for the link.  Is this information relevant for DPM 2010 also?  The document refers to DPM 2007.
