DPM 2012 and Sharepoint 2010 Content DB backupped but where are my site collection? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi folks,

I have configured DPM 2012 for first use on a SPS 2010 farm.

I have created a protection group, I have done a consistency check without error and started a Recovery point.

Now I can see all Content DB tree but nothing about Site collection or single items stored into content DB: practically I cannot restore a single site collection!!!!

My content DB is very small, only 30GB, DPM account has farm administrator rights and I have no error about DPM installation.

    Someone has idea about it?

    Regards

  • Hi Fabio,

You need to wait that DPM run SharePoint cataloging process. cataloging is a separate task from the task to create a recovery point for a SharePoint farm.

SharePoint cataloging is the process of collecting lists of URLs (such as site collections, sites, documents, or lists) in a SharePoint farm. By default, the catalog task is scheduled to run three hours after the first scheduled backup of the corresponding SharePoint farm in the day.

Technet link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff634233.aspx (Same for DPM2012)

  • Sorry Stephane but I have a doubt about DPM Data Source. I read into TechNet a command to force cataloging... should be Start-CreateCatalog -DataSource -> what's Data Source? Because when I try to write SharePoint Farm I have an error :(

  • Thanks to all.

    I solved :)

My problem was connected with Protection Group name that contains space :(

I have followed this post http://carolramzy.wordpress.com/2010/06/15/dpm-cataloging-to-recover-sharepoint-items-dpm-2010-backup-sharepoint-to-item-level/

    and all worked properly...

    Thanks again
