windows 7 unmountable_boot_volume 0x000000ED RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an advent laptop running windows 7. It is only four months old but I have now hit the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME message displayed on a blue screen. The stop message at the bottom of the screen is

    STOP:  0x000000ED  (0x84AA7448, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x00000000

    I think I have tried all the repair options available on the laptop but still cannot get anywhere. Please help.

    This indicates that the I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed.

    Parameter 2 is the status code from the file system that describes why it failed to mount the volume

    0xC0000185 =

    // MessageText:
    // The I/O device reported an I/O error.
    #define STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR           ((NTSTATUS)0xC0000185 L)

    Check your HDD for errors (download a HDD diagnostic program from your HDD manufacture).
