Some messages were delivered delay to recipients of one particular domain, No NDR RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

When we send e-mail messages to recipients of one particular domain, some of them were delivered delay for few days.  There is no queue in Exchange server 2003, no delivery receipt (sent with request), no NDR message (Non-Delivery Report message - our server setting: 1 hour delay notification & 8 hours expiration timeout) when the specific time period elapsed.  If there are multiple recipients in the same email(s), we received the delivery receipt or relay notification from rest of recipients.

We checked the message history in Message Tracking Center; it showed "Message transferred to   through SMTP" (w/o FQDN) before delivery to this particular domain.  After the message delayed delivery, it shows more event records with correct FQDN for it.

How can we find out where the messages queued, is there any way to track back the log?  Please comment and thank you!

    Regards,

    Anderson

  • Hi,

If you enable SMTP logging on the SMTP virtuel server you might be able to tell when the message is delivered to the remote domain and if not delivered in time why not.

  • Hi Leif,

Thank you for your reply.  We just enabled SMTP logging.  Can we trace back the history record for delivered delay messages and find out why no NDR?  Our Exchange server works OK right now, but we'd like to verify this issue fixed and eliminate this problem happen again.  How can we tell the message delivered or not if there is no NDR?

  • Hi,

If you just enabled SMTP logging you can't go backwards. You must wait for the next occurence and then look at the log.
