SharePoint 2010 - How to change a page layout - content type or web parts page? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have what I think is a very basic question.  I am very new to SharePoint so I hope this makes sense. Lets say I have a page that has 4 areas that I can add content and/or web parts to (two areas on the top and two areas on the bottom of the page).  I would like to design a page that has 6 areas that I can add content and/or webparts to.  Is this a content type or is this a web parts page?  What is the difference between the two? I understand that the master page controls things like the  a company logo and things that show across all pages but looking to create a home page with different sections and each section on the home page would contain links to other pages.

Where can you view what master page, content type, or web parts page is linked to a page in sharepoint?
