Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 upgrade - MSP patch keeps rolling back and failing to install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi folks I'm trying to update our instance of Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 from version 4.3.1935.0 to version 4.6.263.0 via the provided MSP. I'm trying to update the MIM Service and Sync Components (we only use the SSPR element of MIM) and every time I run the MSP patch, it fails and rolls back. The patch I am trying to install is: MIMSyncService_x64_KB4512924 MIMService_x64_KB4512924

I've output verbose logs and the below are the relevant errors I am getting:

Any ideas folks on why this patch is not applying?

  • Hi,

You'll need to install MIM2016 SP2 before applying this hotfix.

Because you're on a really old version of FIM/MIM, please take care to test SP2 thoroughly in Dev before applying in a Production environment.

  • Thanks for the response Leo.

I've already downloaded the MIM 2016 Service Pack 2 files and when I attempt to run the setup.exe (version 4.6.34.0) on the server, it fails immediately with:

"Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue.  To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".

So, I cannot even get past this part.

The current install version for both MIM 2016 Service and Portal as well as Sync Service is definitely: 4.3.1935

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    RW

  • Hi,

I haven't done this, but perhaps you need to install SP1 first?

    Then install SP2.

    You're on a really old version :)

  • Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I'm seeing a similar issue.

  • Hi,

You can always do uninstall of the old one and then install some fresh version of MIM using old databases. It should upgrade databases and catch all the configuration.

But of course it's good to check the process in some test environment!
