reopening old documents RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I reopen old Word files?  I have many, many documents that I created in the last century with earlier versions of Word for Mac.  Here is the version information of one such file chosen more or less at random:  "Microsoft Word 1.x-5.x document."   Is there a way to open these old files?

You might be better of asking in the Mac Support Forum.

Check this similar thread, which might lead you to the answer you need.

How to automate conversion of 1.x-5.x versions of Word files?

    Hope this helps,

  • Which version of Word are you using to attempt opening?

In the most recent versions look under:

File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Options > File Block Settings

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.
