  • Question

  • Hi,

A user created a sitepage (i.e. modern page) in SharePoint online for eg: page name: "Test" and deleted the page.

After that when he is creating the page with the same name as "Test" the system throws an error as specified below:

"A file with name already exists. It was last modified by  on 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 -0000".

But when I search the page with the name "Test" under sitepages folder as well as in the site there was no such page exists, even i checked it in the recycle bin.

    Kindly suggest.

  • Hi

Do you use SharePoint Online or On premise.

I tested in my online environment, and it will auto rename file name to add (1) even though I created a same name page as previous.

  • Hi Justin,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Kindly re-investigate my query, the question is the file was deleted and not exists but when you are creating the file with the same name it displays the error.

    Kindly suggest.

  • Hi Justin,

Your are correct as explained above.

The issue is when i am renaming any file with the same file name which was deleted and not exists, i am getting the error that the file already exist, but the file was already deleted and not exists as investigated.

    Thanks

  • Hey

I delete TestDel.aspx and rename TestDel(1) to TestDel. There is no error...

Can you give more detail for this or upload some snapshots?

  • Strange enough. I test it and cannot reproduce your issue.

What I do is click the ... of the page, more properties -> edit item and then change the name field.

I have run out of my brain.

By the way, did you also check the second stage of the recycle bin?

  • Hi Justin,

Thank for your help, i haven't check it in 2nd stage recycle bin because i don't have the access, i will check the same

but will it make any difference, even if the file is there in the 2nd stage recycle bin.

    regards

    Roopak

  • Per my test, it won't cause issue after I delete it to recycle bin...

I have no idea why you meet this issue. :)
