Removing Orphan Exchange 2003 server with Exchange Organization RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We are starting the process of migrating Exchange 2003 to 2010. We have an orphan server listed with Exchange System Manager and it's there for last 4-5 years. So we decided to remove the server reference using ADSI edit. Under CN=Microsoft Exchange we found an entry CN=MRS and in description area we found reference to the above server (CN=DELCCC01:MAIL). Also with our default Recipient / E-Mail address policy @MRS is defined and all users having this address.

So please suggest how to remove this entry @MRS mentioned with recipient policy (if I deselect @MRS with default policy and selecting the option "apply the policy now" might remove @MRS with all currently assigned users?) and all references to MRS from AD (so it won't display as an option if we create a new recipient policy) and safely remove the server reference using ADSI edit

Answers

  • Hi

    We followd below steps

    a) Disabled MRS ID from Email address of default recipient policy and later deleted the MRS

    b) Using ADSI edit we deleted the reference to the server (Configuration / Services / Microsoft Exchange / Mycompany Mail Organization / Administrative Groups / Central Admin Group/ Servers)

So all users are updated and now Exchange system manager looks fine and started the migration activity

  • I would suggest you can give a try for ADmodify. With this you can do what ever you want related to AD and Exchange on one shot. But before playing with ADmodify just test in testing environment first.

     Details, please see:
