SharePoint 2007 - different behaviour with Office 2007 when opening docs from Search Results or DocLib RRS feed

    Hi,

    I have a SharePoint 2007 farm and I encountered the following behaviour:

    • When a user opens a document from the document library he gets prompted whether to open the document in read/editing mode. 
    • When the same user searches for the document, finds the document on the search results page and tries to open the document from there, he just get prompted to open or save the document. From the search results page he does not have the choice to open the document for editing.

    Is this by design?

    Hi Sven W,

    The difference is because when open the document from the library, it use the “OpenDocument Class” add on, which prompt open in Read-only or Edit mode, you can use F12 to check the properties of the opening document in these two different ways.

    When open the document in Search, open it by checking “Open”, people with edit permission would be able to edit the document, and save it back to SharePoint library.
