Print spooler listening on a high port in 2008 R2

    Question

  • Hi,

My printer spooler service is listening on tcp 49188.  The high range ports are blocked by our firewall.  Printing doesn't seem to be affected but what is the point of this traffic?  I see attempts to connect to this port.  We have the epmap port open.

I understand that Internet Printing will use RPC, but Internet printing service is not installed on the print server.

Running 2008 R2 SP 1 for print server and terminal services.

    Thanks,

    rudif
