DPM 2016 type set as disk and not volume RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I guess the answer to this question will be remove and redo the setup but I have to ask it since we have quite alot of data protected.

DPM 2016 where the storage pool is shown as disk and now volume which means that we are not using the MBS feature and cannot add new protection groups - getting an error. Can add computers to existing PGs though.

Is there a way to "transform/convert" the disk to a volume without loosing all data (we dont have enough space to migrate to different storage, 42TB of data)

Thank you very much in advance

  • Hi Micke,

You are correct with your first statement, unfortunately there isn't a way to convert a legacy disk to a volume (MBS).

If you want your current Protection Groups to be placed on a new volume that is using MBS, you would have to follow the procedure below:

    1. Add new modern storage volume to the DPM storage pool.

    2. Stop protection of the data sources you want to migrate and retain the Replica.

    3. Re-protect the data sources and select the modern storage volumes to use for protection.

    4. DPM will now copy the replica data from the old storage to the new modern storage replica.
