Power Saving and screen saver RRS feed

  • Question

  • No matter what I do, Screen Saver will not activate. Screen blanking will not happen and sleep only happens by keyboard button. I have disabled the wake on lan and power saving for the mouse. Any ideas will be welcome.

  • I had this problem with Vista, in addition the screen would wake up without cause. However, I must say in W7 the screensaver has been highly reliable. I also found a free utility which immediately powers down my monitors, so at the push of a button my monitors are off. Quite nice! Works on x64 too.

  • I'm having a similar problem.  My 64-bit Windows 7 system will not go to the screen saver, nor will it go to sleep.  If I manually put it to sleep, it will wake up after only a few seconds.  When I installed Windows 7, it detected and installed drivers for all of my hardware except the intel chipset drivers and my soundblaster card.  I have installed drivers for both of those manually through compatibility mode so there are no yellow warning signs in my device manager.

So far I have unchecked the "Allow this device to wake my computer" option for my eHome infrared receiver (Windows Media Center Remote Receiver) and my network adapter.  This has not helped.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try next?

    My system:
    Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi/AP Motherboard
Intel 6750 dual core Processor (64-bit)
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 Video
    4 GB Corsair 1066 DDR2
    Sounblaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer
    2 Hauppage HVR-1800 Tuner Cards
    2 SATA LG DVD Burners
    SATA Sony Blu-Ray BD-ROM
3 500 GB SATA Hard Drives

First make sure that the update called "HID Non-user input data filter" is installed.. Then if you have a microsoft mouse install the driver
    from here:

  • Lead3,

Thanks, I did already get the HID Non-user input data filter from Windows Update.  I installed the Keyboard and Mouse drivers and now the system will go to screen saver and sleep!  This is great, thank you!

  • Thanks, that did the trick so far. I am not as accustomed to the new update system as I was with XP, and not sure I like the new one. But time will tell.
