Add distribution list name to beginning of subject line RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Exchange 2013, is there a way to add the distribution list name to the beginning of the subject line?  This would allow users to determine which list the message came from.

    Thanks.

  • You can use the Exchange Server 2013 Transport rule -using the "Prepend the subject of the message"

Prepend the subject of the message with

    PrependSubject

    Prefix

Prepends the Subject of the message with the specified text.

  • Hi,

According to your further description, the transport rule condition is “whenever someone (on the list or not) sent a message to a list”, is it right? If so, we can try the following rule:

    Hope it works.

  • It works, but it's also labeling any mail the users of that list with the list name.

  • Hi,

If possible, please provide more information about your requirement for more suggestion, such as: What's the condition about adding the distribution list name to the beginning of the subject line?

If the condition is send by the distribution group, please also provide how a user send by that distribution group.

    Thanks,

  • We're moving to a Exchange 2013 from MDaemon mail server.  On the old server, whenever someone (on the list or not) sent a message to a list, the list name was added to the front of the subject.  Example:

    [ListName] Subject of email message

I'm trying to replicate the same thing on Exchange.  When I used the instructions above, it had the unintended consequence of labeling any message send/received by the list recipient with the subject label.

  • Hello Regarding above conversation, we have similar problem. Is there any way to add name to the beginning of the subject line? For distribiton list. We can do this if it's mailbox via "Prepend the subject of the message but in distribution list rule doesnot allow. In the rule section i tired like as above (the receiver is member of ) but then rule label all member in their coming emails subject. We need to add name to the begining of the sbject line only the distribution list email adress. How can we do this or another way can we solve, becouse we cannot do this then all coming emails if the distrubtion list email in sender bcc's then mail arrived to inbox not in the requested folder, if we can put a name on begining sbject we can create a rule to move the coming emails (distrubiton list) to requested folder Waiting yours Regards

  • Click the "More optoins..." link. It modifies the list of options on the "*Apply this rule if..." drop down.
