Windows Server 2012 Secondary Domain issue RRS feed

  • Setup:

    Primary Domain Controller : Windows Server 2012

    Secondary Domain Controller : Windows server 2012

    Domain Name: ME.Local

    Primary Domain was created and now it  is UP & Running

    Secondary Domain also created & also running

    But when i switch off Primary Domain controller, below issues were witnessed

    1. On Secondary Domain Controller : Active Directory Users could not be opened.Error says like'  Could not communicate with PDC & there is no such Domain exists"

    But i could able to ping Domain name(me.Local) from Domain clients , it is all pointing to Secondary Domain Controller.

    No connectivity Issues found.

    2. On Secondary Domain Controller : Sites & Trust could not be opened & Error popup says "No Such Domain Exists"

    Please help me in solving this

  • When you have two DCs, they will each participate in authenticating, however, to maintain full functionality, you'll need to ensure your FSMOs are always available.

    Before you power down a server, run this command:

    netdom query fsmo

    If the server that is listed is the one you're about to shutdown, you should move the FSMOs first.
