"File Locked" from recently created files RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just bought a new MacBook and installed the latest Microsoft Office.  I've been creating Word documents and saving them to my desktop.  When I try to open them a day or so later I can't.

Word says: "This file is locked for editing.  Locked by: another user. You can open the file as a read-only."  So I try to open as a read-only and then I get the message: "Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use (it's not) the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file might contact invalid characters (it doesn't.)"

I've tried to open up word and then open the document from recent files but I still can't.  This is quite frustrating since all my software is updated and new and I can't access my own files.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

  • Hi,

How about saving your files into other folders except desktop.

I am sorry that this is the Microsoft Office forum for Windows.  To better help you, you can post the question in Office for Mac forum here:
