Windows Explorer Search Button RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

After some help here.  It would appear that a number of desktops are having an issue with the Explorer Search button.  When clicked, the button appears to press down, however the search companion doesn't appear to be opening.

I have logged in as an admin and reinstalled the srchasst.inf file using the files from i386 on the Windows XP SP3 CD however still no luck.

Do you have any idea as to why this would be happening?!

  • hi Pasporte,

I haven't seen that issue before, but one thing that has helped me in the past with such erratic behaviour is to re-register all DLLs in the Windows and System32 directories. Use this command:

    for %m in (*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %m

Strange that you're seeing this same issue on multiple computers though... have you ran any kind of spyware removers, registry cleaners...?
