Excel Power Query doesn't like XML formatted OData RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am puzzled by why a simple OData example (eg. ODataActionsSample from github.com/OData/ODataSamples) would work depending on deployment method.

    1. If I deploy it locally then it works fine with Excel (odata JSON formatted)

    2. If I deploy it as an Azure Web App Service then it works fine with Excel (odata JSON formatted)

    3. If I deploy it as an Azure Cloud Service then it doesn't work with Excel (odata XML formatted). But works fine in LINQPad.

In all 3 scenarios, the ODataActionsSample has not been modified.

In scenario 3, how can we configure it so that the odata returns as JSON formatted?

Answers

  • Hi there. PQ expects the OData to be in JSON format. It sounds like you'll need to contact the sample providers and ask about how to get the Azure service to return JSON instead of XML.
