Sharepoint keeps prompting for User ID and Password

    Question

  • Hi,

I have sharepoint 2010 1 APP Server, 1 WFE. I have soem sites like

    http://site1.mydomain.com

    https://site1.mydomain.com

    http://site2.mydomain.net

    http://site3.mydomain.net

When i try to access http://site1.mydomain.com from any server or any client machine on domain sharepoint keeps prompting me for user id and password. Other sites are working fine. i have set loopbackcheck as well.

Several other sites are working fine. just 1 site having issue. this is only site which has https. strange is that when i access https://site1.mydomain.com i access just giving userid and password onetime.

when i access http://site1.mydomain.com from outside domain (Internet) its work fine.

please tell me what is the issue and how to fix it.

  • Place *.mydomain.com or site1.mydomain.com, site2.mydomain.com, etc. in the Intranet Zone of IE.  This is the only zone that automatically passes credentials.

  • As Trevor mentioned - make sure the site URLs are in the Intranet Zone of the client browser. For clarification - the loopbackcheck that people keep mentioning is only required on the server, if, and only if, you are trying to resolve sites from the server itself using anything other than the server name. It has no bearing on resolution from a client system.

  • 1) You have to reboot for the loopback to take effect. Put it on all servers in your farm and on the sql server.

    2) Make sure your AAM's are correct and include ssl and make sure your port bindings are correct in IIS
