I'm getting a large amount of files in my environment that suddenly have issues opening in Excel Web App. They all say the file is in an unsupported format or corrupt. However the file opens fine in Excel 2010. And some of them are VERY simple sheets with just a list of numbers no graphics or calculations. Is anyone else seeing this or facing this?

The issue may be caused by that The Session in Excel Service. So I suggest you try to Restart the Excel Service on your server. you can try to estimate performance and capacity requirements for Excel Services as the following article:

Typically there will be a corresponding Office update as well, try using Windows update to see if the updates are available.
In the event you have an plugin that got corrupted a reinstall should work.
