SharePoint Unwanted Behavior - Automatically converting .xls to .xlsx RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running MOSS 2007 and am running into some weird behavior with documents in a document library.  There are 9 Excel Documents in the library and all are Excel 2003 format to ensure users with Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 can all access the documents as needed (audience is external client users who have differing versions of Office).  We have noticed that when some users check out the .xls file and make some basic changes and check the file back in, the extension has converted into Excel 2007 Macro Disabled files (.xslx).  This removes all macros from the file and additionaly prevents Office 2003 users from access it now.

What could be causing the file type to be changed after a check in?

  • HI,

What is the default template for this library?

Have you tried downloading the file  and then reuploading after making changes?

    Thanks, Rahul Rashu
