Adding High Availability to existing 2012R2 ADRMS cluster RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good Morning All,

I have been using AD RMS for over 2 years now and I need to implement high availability. Current setup:

    Single domain / forest
    asdf.local

    1st ADRMS server (Windows 2012 R2 Standard)
    rs.asdf.local

    2nd server (Windows 2012 R2 Standard)
    rs1.asdf.local

SQL Server is Windows 2012 R2 Standard + SQL 2012. This is a clustered SQL server with high availability.

Host A record for AD RMS cluster and license access
    adrms.asdf.local

    Intranet cluster URLs
    Licensing: https://adrms.asdf.local/_wmcs/licensing
    Certification: https://adrms.asdf.local/_wmcs/certification/certification.asmx

    Extranet cluster URLs
    Licensing: https://adrms.asdf.local_wmcs/licensing
    Certifications: http://adrms.asdf.local/_wmcs/certification

Currently, the Host A record (adrms.asdf.local) points to the 1st ADRMS Server (rs.asdf.local). The 1st ADRMS server hosts the ADRMS cluster. I would like to add the 2nd server to provide High availability for ADRMS front-end. Do I need anything else other than below:

    1. Add and configure Windows NLB to both ADRMS servers
    2. Add the second server to the current ADRMS Server cluster
    3. Change the DNS for adrms.asdf.local to point to the NLB IP address.

    Thanks!
